Heisei Period

       In Heisei period, Japanese economics started to decline.Japanese politics also became unstable and the primeministerschanged one after another in short period of time.
       Economic difficulty affected to gardens too. For privatehousing garden, the traditional Japanese gardens came to beunpopular and thought to be out of date because of two reasons;one was the cost of producing and maintaining and the other wasthat it could not catch up the change of housing and life style.
       Now there are three major streams of garden styles inJapan. Zoki gardens and the modern Japanese gardens arecontinually supported by house owners and the English gardenbecame a trend in early Heisei period. In Showa period, peoplemade plant beds and planted flowers, yet the western flowersavailable in the Japanese gardening market were limited. In Heiseiperiod, full-brown English gardens were created all around inJapan and various flowering plants were imported to theJapanese gardening market.

       Nobody knows how the Japanese garden progress in thefuture. Yet architecture, contemporary arts (land art, etc.) andnew technology combines to Japanese garden to create newstyle gardens.        Also, the Japanese gardens have been accepted by worldwidely and numerous Japanese gardens ware created abroad.Msuno Shunmyo, Kitayama Yasuo and many other Japanesegardeners have worked in Japan and the world to develop andsophisticate the Japanese gardens.
